Budgeting for a KI Workshop

We are delighted to provide you with information regarding budgeting for your KI workshop. We hope the following information is useful. Every workshop is unique in scope so this maybe not reflect the final costs of your workshop. Please let us know if you have any questions. We look forward to working with you.

Ideas Lab / Innovation Lab
Idea Labs bring together researchers from across scientific, technical and design disciplines to develop new and innovative grant proposals. Teams form and ideas are developed through real-time peer review over the course of multiple days, as facilitators and mentors guide participants through the early stages of proposal development. Idea Labs have been described as an “opportunity to build collaborations that would take a year or more, in a single week.”

Scoping Sessions
Scoping Sessions are short workshops that maximize diverse expertise to break down a broad topic area into actionable challenges and opportunities. They are a great way to jumpstart Grand Challenges, collect input from large and diverse communities, and inform the writing of solicitations and RFPs. Facilitators orchestrate many fast-paced interactions that result in a broad exploration of the topic area. The outputs of these activities are then prioritized for future pursuit in an Ideas Lab or through more traditional funding approaches.

Writing Workshops
Writing workshops convene experts representing different perspectives with the intentions of co-authoring a white paper, policy brief, or road map. Facilitators engineer a series of events that 1) define the scope, content and focus of the document; 2) build an annotated outline to incorporate all participants’s points of view; and 3) Refine the outline into a first draft. Some time after the workshop, the facilitators reconvene the participants for a series of virtual Micro Labs to review and approve the final draft.
